The program was started by Mr. Y. B. Ashby many years ago and we need people to help relieve him of some of the responsibilities associated with the program. See the link below on the life and efforts Mr. Ashby has provided over the years to creating the Grundy County Veterans Historical Society.
Among the many topics, the group has discussed a membership drive, developing a "Wall of Veterans, and incorporating the students of Grundy County into a membership contest with prizes to the top students.
The group is also looking for volunteers who will serve on a funeral team, and will attend funerals of local service men and women. They would be asked to take photos, and play the electronic bugle if the honor guard is not available.
Grundy Co. Veterans Historical Society is also looking for an attorney that will volunteer his or her services to help with the necessary paperwork for becoming a 501C3 non-profit organization.
The Society also is looking for individuals that would be willing to help with some renovations to the Veterans Historical Society building at the old Palmer Church of Christ which was donated to the Society by Tennessee Consolidated Coal Company for the purpose of recognizing our Veterans.
As noted there is much to be done. We have no way of knowing if someone has served in the military unless someone tells us. Please contact a member to participate. Information should include the veteran's name, branch of service, years of service, living or deceased, along with a brief story of their life and the contact person's name and number.
Registration Forms: Click here for a printable registration form and Click here for page two of the form. Additionally, links are provided below as well, and can be printed and mailed, scanned and/or emailed to the addresses provided below.
The local Grundy County Veterans Historical Society is dedicated to seeking memberships from Grundy County citizens that will promote the recognition of our local Veterans and their families.
We are requesting that citizens of Grundy County join together as we work to form a team that will hopefully be able to continue the efforts of recognizing and honoring our veterans and their families throughout the year. Please note that an effort is underway to get information about the service of all deceased veterans of Grundy County, as most of the information previously obtained was lost in a fire.
Our next scheduled meeting will be on 20 November 2012, at 10 a.m.
in the Register of Deeds office in the Grundy County Courthouse.
All are welcome to attend. Please come and help promote the recognition of Grundy County Veterans and their families.

Special Tribute To Veterans - 9 November - 7 to 9 a.m.
The Grundy County Veterans Historical Society focuses public attention on those in our county who have served in our Nation's military.
The Herald, has a special section listing the names of our living veterans.
This section is sponsored by local businesses and individuals.
The list was read, live, on GCTV during the Society's annual Veterans Day program.
Readers and viewers are asked to help make the list more accurate.
Please keep in mind that this is a list of LIVING veterans (deceased names are kept separate).
If you know of a living vet whose name is not on the list, or of one who is on the list, but passed on, please contact a Society official and help update the record.
This can be done by calling 779-3462 or 779-5020.
Several veterans were honored during the telecast.
They were Paul Rollings, Billy Taylor (U.S. Army), Carl Crisp (U.S. Navy),
William Campbell (U.S. Army), Robert Short (U.S. Army), and Kimberly King (U.S. Navy).
